Environmental Sealing & Waterproofing Solution
GCL (Geosynthetic Clay Liner) Grade Bentonite is a highly specialized material used in factory-manufactured hydraulic barriers. Unlike the loose powder used in drilling or the granules used for pond repairs, GCL bentonite is typically "sandwiched" between two layers of geotextiles (fabrics) to create a waterproof "mat."
Key characteristics of our GCL Grade Bentonite:
When confined between geotextiles and hydrated, it creates a barrier with incredibly low permeability (typically as low as 1 × 10⁻⁹ cm/sec), making it far more effective than traditional compacted clay liners.

GCL grade bentonite is specifically engineered for factory-manufactured hydraulic barriers. Its exceptional properties make it the industry standard for environmental containment and waterproofing projects.
Here are the primary benefits of using GCL grade bentonite:
GCL grade bentonite is selected for its extremely high sodium montmorillonite content. When this material is confined between geotextiles and hydrated:
The Benefit: It creates a barrier with incredibly low permeability (typically as low as 1 × 10⁻⁹ cm/sec). This makes it far more effective at stopping water and hazardous chemicals than a much thicker layer of traditional compacted clay.
One of the biggest benefits of GCL grade bentonite is its ability to protect against accidental damage.
The Benefit: If the liner is punctured by a stone or a small tool during installation, the bentonite within the "sandwich" swells as it hydrates, physically flowing into and sealing the hole. This ensures the integrity of the containment system even after minor mechanical injury.
Traditional clay liners (CCLs) are very difficult to install in rainy or freezing conditions because they require precise moisture levels for compaction.
The Benefit: GCLs are manufactured in controlled factory settings and delivered in rolls. They can be installed quickly in almost any weather condition, significantly reducing labor costs and project timelines.
A single 10 mm layer of GCL can provide the same hydraulic protection as 600 mm to 900 mm of compacted natural clay.
The Benefit: This "volume advantage" allows for more storage space in landfills and reservoirs, directly increasing the project's return on investment.
GCL grade bentonite is the gold standard for environmental "containment" projects:
Landfills: It prevents toxic "leachate" (liquid waste) from seeping into the groundwater.
Mining: It is used to line tailings ponds to keep heavy metals and processing chemicals contained.
Roadways: It is installed under highways in "sensitive water zones" to prevent oil or chemical spills from reaching local aquifers.
