Professional Grade Drilling Mud Additive
Our Drilling Grade Bentonite is manufactured to meet the stringent requirements of the petroleum industry. With excellent thixotropic and suspension properties combined with low filtrate loss, it is ideal for various drilling applications.
We manufacture High Yield Bentonite as per:
The thixotropic nature of our Bentonite allows the slurry to penetrate deep into cleavages, cracks, and pores, developing excellent suspension properties and acting as a friction-reducing agent that stabilizes excavations.
Meets international standards
Superior performance ratio
Excellent borehole stability
Stable at high temperatures
Bentonite is a critical component in oil and gas drilling, primarily used to create drilling mud (drilling fluid). Its unique ability to swell and become viscous when mixed with water provides several technical and safety advantages.
Here are the primary benefits of using bentonite in oil drilling:
Bentonite is famous for its ability to form a filter cake—a thin, impermeable layer that coats the walls of the borehole.
The Benefit: This "wallpaper" effect seals porous rock formations, preventing the drilling fluid from leaking into the earth (fluid loss) and, more importantly, preventing the well walls from caving in or collapsing.
Because bentonite is thixotropic (it acts as a liquid when stirred but turns into a gel when still), it excels at managing rock debris.
While Drilling: It provides the viscosity needed to carry rock cuttings from the bottom of the hole up to the surface.
During Pauses: If the pumps are turned off, the mud thickens into a gel, "locking" the cuttings in place so they don't sink back down and clog the drill bit.
The drilling process generates massive amounts of friction and heat at the drill bit.
The Benefit: Bentonite-based mud acts as a high-performance lubricant for the drill string and bit. This reduces wear and tear, prevents the equipment from overheating, and extends the lifespan of expensive drilling tools.
Deep underground, fluids (like oil, gas, or water) are under immense pressure.
The Benefit: The weight and density of the bentonite mud create hydrostatic pressure that pushes back against the formation. This prevents "blowouts" (uncontrolled releases of gas or oil) and keeps the well under control.
Compared to synthetic chemicals, bentonite is a naturally occurring clay.
Eco-Friendly: It is non-toxic and generally safe for the environment, which is crucial when drilling near groundwater.
Cost-Effective: It is widely available and highly efficient; a small amount of high-quality sodium bentonite can create a large volume of effective drilling mud.
